1st Sept 2024 - Sunday morning garage training complete, getting my routine back after a lovely August off. It’s the first time in 35 years of training that I took an entire month off, and enjoyed a whole summer with no teaching commitments.

I wanted to see if my chosen arts would call me back, if I felt the need to continue after so long - after all I’m 50 now, and I started martial arts aged 15. I needed to know.

Turns out that I still felt the need to practice and move my body over the summer. I kept thinking about training programmes, theory, refinements, improvements to drills and exercises. After a while I went out to my garage training space and started working, then called a friend over to help develop some new sequences. Now I’m doing daily practice once again. 😁

Turns out that holidays are good. Breaks help revitalise and revive the passion for anything you love, and help you find the joy in your arts again. My summer break may well become a regular thing. Maybe our medieval ancestors knew a thing or two after all. 🙏👍😁
