Our Students

Apprentices and Journeymen make up the first and largest group of all our People.

Please note that my use of the word Man in “Journeyman” is used simply from historical context, and includes Women equally. My training programme is based upon the the well-proven three-stage educational system of apprenticeships which has been widely adopted since the Middle Ages, and I are simply using the same widespread terminology.

FWTS | Apprentices & Journeymen

Apprentices

I use the term apprentice to describe a student who is studying Kung-Fu within the Apprentice Level of my training programme. They are all learning the general knowledge of the art, and have no responsibilities except to train hard and learn the system as best they can. Without exception, every person who has studied the Federation Wing Tsun System started out as an apprentice at Student Grade 1.

Passing the different stages of apprenticeship is comparable to gaining your first qualifications (GCSE’s, AS-Levels & A-Levels) in the academic world, or becoming an ever-more qualified apprentice with a recognised tradesman.

Journeymen

The term journeyman describes a student who has completed the Apprentice Level, and is now studying within the Journeyman Level of the training programme. They are learning the deeper lore of the art, and are discovering their own individuality and personality within combat.

Being awarded the various journeyman grades is comparable to gaining subsequent degrees (for example BA, then MA qualifications) in the academic world, or gaining official craftsman or journeyman status from a recognised trade guild.

Like apprentices, my Journeymen Level students have no official responsibilities as such besides continuing to train, explore and understand their art. However in practice they always answer questions and like to share knowledge with students at the earlier stages of training.

Active Journeymen

Although i’m very proud of everybody i’ve taught, there are far too many Apprentice Level students to list here. However the Journeymen Level students have been studying my system for a minimum of five years each, and in some cases for over a decade. I feel they deserve some individual recognition for their hard work and dedication to learning, so here they all are:

The following students are still actively training within the Journeyman Level of the Federation Wing Tsun System:

The following people completed their apprenticeships or were training within the Journeyman Level before coming to the end of their time within the system, for various personal reasons. Good people all, they have my very best wishes for the future, and i’m always happy to see them again.
